Three Women Team Up to Serve the Latino Community
Jessica Loose. The daughter of political refugees, Jessica taught ESL (English as a Second Language) in Dare County Schools for 14 years. She didn't stop teaching after retiring in 2016. She maintained her strong ties with the Latino community by volunteering with middle school students and working in a pilot program for high school newcomers. She currently teaches English to adults.
Kay Minis. Kay began working with the Latino community on the Outer Banks more than 25 years ago teaching English to adults. She later developed a home-based tutoring program for Spanish speaking families with school-aged children. Working within the community has fueled her passion for identifying resources and pathways to help families thrive in their new home.
Yessica Rabanal. A native of Peru, Yessica emigrated to the U.S. in 2000 and volunteers as a tutor and interpreter with Sea Change. Her daughter attended Columbia University, fulfilling a family dream. She wants to make this dream come true for other immigrant families. Teaching Spanish at the local community college allows her to build bridges between different cultures.
